Proof Of God

We come to the last Episode of the three-part National Geographic Channel-Morgan Freeman series on “Story of God, Part II.” This is titled “Proof of God,” Some people see proof of God from waking in the morning to going to sleep at night. God is around you. Others think a bolt of lightning from the sky is what is needed as proof God is there. Either way, SOMEONE had to create the cosmos and the further back scientists go, the more intricate the system seems, so that someone-somewhere said, “Let it be,” and it was.

The traveling Morgan Freeman visits a man who was in one of the Towers that collapsed on 9/11. He speaks of his experience in trying to escape and a “small voice” told him to go down a certain stairwell and he, and others, did and were saved. At the same time, though, firemen were going upward. There is bravery and then there is heroism.

Then, there is a Tibetan Master who believes he touches the pine within himself when he controls his body temperature as he meditates. In this example, he is in a freezer that is 23 degrees Fahrenheit, wearing a thin shirt and slacks. (Freeman was in an overcoat, hat and gloves and had to leave) The Master keeps his body warm by meditating. I imagine, the reverse can be true by cooling the body in a hot temperature. Imagine crossing Death Valley and feeling like a piece of ice.

We learn that proof of God means something different to each person, but that we come from one cell and each person is different. Just because we are different means people will keep trying to understand God as they experience life in their own way. What is your proof? Mine is waking up every morning.

As with the previous “Story of God,” direction, cinematography and music are excellent
